    Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the death awareness and death preparation experiences of hospitalized elderly people in a long-term care facility in depth. Method: Individual in-depth interviews were conducted to gather data after seven elderly patients who were hospitalized in a geriatric hospital in an urban community in Gyeonggi Province were selected, and Colaizzi's phenomenological method was used to analyze the collected data. Results: Four theme clusters and nine themes were selected. The theme clusters were "death as the final destination of life," "death in the hands of family" and "making preparations for death by living a meaningful life." Conclusion: It's required to take appropriate institutional measures to help the elderly to be ready for death by discussing with their families and medical personnel, and the development of customized nursing intervention programs is necessary to assist them in leading a significant and happy life until the last moment of life
